Monday, December 10, 2007 Crap Football Songs No 1: AZ alfabet: van A tot Z …. AZ! By Double X (1981) AZ Alkmaar wrote themselves into the history books a couple of weeks back when a 1-0 victory over Greek side Larissa meant they’d gone a record 32 European home games unbeaten, breaking the record of 31 set by Ipswich between 1962 and 2002. Ironically, the pinnacle of Town’s European success came in 1981 in a two-legged UEFA Cup Final win over the very same AZ – then known as AZ ’67. Neither Town nor Alkmaar have EVER lost a home match in Europe, and while Manchester United went 56 games unbeaten at Old Trafford from 1956, their unbeaten run ended in 1996. Town didn’t record a song to celebrate their only European Final appearance to date but AZ did with this (slighty) catchy number by the Dutch comic duo Gerard Rasch & Ben Sierhuis better known as Double XX. And just to show that’s there’s no hard feelings at the Dutch breaking our record here’s the song in its entirety... MP3 | posted by chevblue at 8:33 PM |
